Peer-to-Peer
What is peer-to-peer and how does it work?
As demand for video content continues to grow, business networks are becoming increasingly complex. Peer-to-peer streaming technology is an efficient and cost-effective way to deliver video across the enterprise without impacting existing network capacity.
With our partnership with Hive Streaming and Strive, we leverage existing network capacity to deliver high-quality live and on-demand video to every user in the organization.
This is how Peer-to-Peer streaming works
Peer-to-Peer is a software-only solution that allows all viewers on a subnet to watch a live video stream or OnDemand video. Without peer-to-peer, every single user gets their own stream directly from the streaming server (unicast), which results in a huge load on the network. With peer-to-peer streaming, every user in the network - whether an active viewer or not - also becomes a distribution node and passes on his received signal. In this way, the traffic in the network is reduced to a fraction.
To use Hive Streaming, software is installed on each user's client computer, turning the devices into a distribution hub. Using a sophisticated and certified algorithm, all viewers will receive the livestream at the same time, regardless of whether they receive it directly from the streaming server or receive it internally.
Strive technology requires no software installation and is supported by the simplex player in modern browsers. It creates a dynamic network for video transmission between connected devices.
Cloud-based services generate and collect data to analyze user behavior, help determine optimal peering, and provide connectivity support.
Security through encryption
Peer-to-Peer streaming supports encrypted video distribution using the latest DRM technologies. So you can be sure that the contents do not appear unintentionally
High video quality
Peer-to-peer technology ensures that every viewer has the best possible video quality without compromising the network. Peer-to-Peer streaming supports the latest HTTP protocols for adjustable bit rates (ABR).
Silent Test
You can test your network before the start of your event, in order to recognize the network status and any problem areas in time. This is done without the users becoming aware of or affecting the network.
Real-time analysis
Peer-to-Peer streaming's analytics service offers a wealth of data and statistics. In addition to viewer participation, locations and viewing time, network visualizations can be used to illustrate the savings and their positive effects of Peer-to-Peer streaming technology.
Cost-Efficient
Peer-to-peer streaming is 100% software-based and easy to configure. The Enterprise Deployment facility can be completed in just days. Of course you will be accompanied by us expertly.

Alternatives
There are other hardware-based solutions, eg. caching and multicast, which can achieve similar results but have a different approach. Please also note the corresponding knowledge base articles:
Caching
To enable the receiver to access a media as quickly as possible, a node can be formed by caching, where multiple requests are bundled and simulates only a single access on the server. Simplex support this process with the leading technology of caching boxes. They come for both on-demand and Live.
Multicast
To relieve the streaming server, it sends a signal only once, which can be picked up by a plurality of receivers (such as radio), without multiplying the data transmission rate at the sender by the number of recipients. This method is called multicast.
Other interesting topics:
Webcast
Webcasting is an innovative way of communication to deliver internal and external objectives with video and presentation. Simplex Pro is the production studio of the simplex platform to start professional webcasts as on-demand or live version with a few clicks and stream to the desired target audience.
