Livestreaming quality
There are some factors to be considered for the choice of livestream quality; the upload speed of the internet connection and the CPU power.
- Bandwidth: Measure the existing upload bit rate (Mbps): https://www.speedtest.net/
A stable upload bitrate of at least 10 Mbps is recommended.
Sharing the Internet connection with many other users may result in an unstable upload bitrate. The total bitrate (video bitrate + audio bitrate) should be at most half of the upload bitrate. If the upload speed is 10 Mbps (10000 kbps), then the maximum total bit rate must not exceed 5000 kbps. - Firewall: The Port 1935 (RTMP in TCP/UDP) on our liveserver must be accessible from your source. You can test it by visiting in the browser on the same network as the encoder: http://live.simplex.tv:1935 If this page doens't result in an error, your connectivity works.
- CPU: Check the CPU usage of your system to make sure there is enough CPU power available: Windows Task Manager, macOS Activity Monitor. Decreasing the resolution and bit rate can reduce CPU utilization.
Livestreaming tips
- Configure and test the encoder early before the event
- Check the live stream in the simplex player
- Check the livestream in the viewer's network
- Check the livestream on various devices and browsers
- Check the backup scenarios (recording, network)
- Start the encoder at least 20 minutes before the event starts
- Check the preview in simplex before changing the status to LIVE
